Jafar

JafarIm just facking knackered! In a nutshell been at this longer than is legally healthy; Produce with Andy Touchfingers as 'Jafar & Touch', with Rob Stow as 'Jafar & Bobby Strobe', as part of 'Rare Unit', alongside my solo doodlings and soundscapes. Spent many years working for the majors in A&R, export, production, sales, heading up two independent house labels and selling for various dance distributors before beginning Kwaito Recordings in 2003. Have now started 'SiaMusic' with Andy and will be releasing music by Rithma, Bursnki, Greg Churchill, Phil Asher, Marcus Begg & Demarkus Lewis, alongside mine and Andy's own tracks. Spent my formative years classically trained in a few instruments before focusing on the drums in touring funk band 'Quibble'. Through this love of acid-jazz and soul, I soon found house and techno and began djing back in 1993. Have been fortunate enough to notch up some fantastic residencies along the way and travel the world spreading the deep vibes. Fave international gigs have been in Penang-Malaysia, Miami WMC and for Ministry's first ever event in New York in July 2006. I'm currently resident at Ben Watt's Neighbourhood venue in West London and have had the pleasure to welcome over Diz, Demarkus Lewis, Miguel Migs, Kerri Chandler, Dj Gregory, Nathan Haines and Franck Roger to join me for my monthly label party in recent months. I believe that you only get out what you put into music and im a firm believer in grafting hard to get what you want, no-one is going to hand you a career in music on a plate, you've got to work your fking ass off and be in it for the right reasons. I always try to bear in mind the words of Hunter S.Thompson to keep me smiling "The music industry is a long dark corridor, peopled by pimps, thieves, crooks and mafiosa, where good men die like dogs." As with anything in life, nothing comes easy! Events wise, I was one of the original directors and resident djs behind London Warehouse party sensation 'Mulletover' before leaving to concentrate on Kwaito Recordings. I ran the 'Hasselhoff Scandal' events at The Brixton Telegraph with my crew up until May06, welcoming Gene Farris, Johnny Fiasco, Franck Roger, Rithma, Joey Youngman, J-dub(Greenskeepers) and more to the decks. This summer (06) I have been concentrating on 'The Hidden Garden' - a weekly outdoor Summer Sunday event in partnership with my good friend Asad Rizvi from Reverberations; Some real highlights with Style of Eye, Jazzy Eyewear, Digs & Woosh, The Littlemen, Paulo Mojo, Colin Dale all representing. As we move into Autumn i'm looking forward to getting stuck into my new residency for Bar Rumba's new venture 'Annexe' in Brixton, a proper underground basement joint where Trevor Fung, Mark Mason and I will be welcoming the likes of Dj Deep, Franck Roger, Phil Asher, Jamie Thinnes and more to come and do battle! With a 6am licence this should be one for you to look out for. Im proud to have stuck to my guns all these years as we are one of the few teams to still push proper underground deep house music in London without compromising or jumping on any trends or bandwagons. I don't really have any time for negative, cynical, backstabbing or arrogant people, positive energy is a far more powerful force in the universe so there's no point being brought down by the dark side!!
